A big hello to parents and students,
It’s been a little while since our last post but we’ve always been here in the background tinkering around as we work on our next big project. One of the main things that has been keeping us busy is the preparations we have been putting in place to arrange our workshop series which is exactly what we are going to share with you in this post!
Our workshop series are designed to help students work on areas and skills that are universal to all. When we consider our younger students, these are things like developing a solid understanding of the key Literacy and Numeracy learning areas. For our senior students, its skills such as working on essays, developing study skills and having an understanding of exams techniques.
Workshops are a fantastic learning tool because:
- They are small and intimate with students of similar learning levels. This means that students are able to work with their peers, understand that the difficulties they are experiencing are similar which in turn, boosts self confidence.
- The number of students allows the tutor running the session to give personalised and individual feedback meaning that while students are in a small group setting, they are still getting all the benefits of tutoring.
- A safe, fun, interactive and engaging environment is created allowing ample opportunities to learn. Students are encouraged to participate with their peers and learn from one another.
- There is an immediate opportunity to use the skills learnt as tutors plan and arrange small tasks to ensure that student’s learning is solidified in that moment.
- Each workshop is slightly modified to satisfy the particular needs of the students taking part in the particular workshop. Feedback from students is instantly taken on board by the tutor running the session.
The next workshops will be running in January 2021 just before school resume for both our primary school students (Literacy and Numeracy Readiness) and high school students (essay Writing, Study Skills and Exam Techniques).
