Assessments, assignments and exams are quickly approaching and it is usually this time of the year that students often turn to our tutors for a little bit of support and guidance. Our tutors are equipped with a range of resources that they share with their students based on their learning style and needs to assist during this time.

Here are a few tips that all students can use to benefit during this busy time period:

  • Create a study timetable: Click here for a free download of our study timetable. This can be customised for your individual needs. We recommend starting by inserting all extra curricular activities, sporting commitments and any part time work. Then, for each day put in a session for homework/revision based on the subjects you had that day. Homework sessions will depend on which year you are in. We recommend 1-1.5 hours for Year 7-9 and 2 hours for Year 10-12.

  • Study with a friend:  Sometimes studying can become a tedious task and we understand that some students also find it boring. To overcome this challenge, we recommend studying with a friend. Be creative with each other- write yourself practice exams and then quiz the other person. Have one friend pick a topic and then have the other explain it back like they are teaching the topic to a classroom of students. This way you are actively engaging with the content and it will become clear which aspects you know really well and which areas need a little more attention.

  • Try different methods: Just as we all have different learning styles, we also have different studying styles. This means each of us find different approaches more effective than others. Some of our students work best with simple tricks such as having the topic in one colour, headings in another and then the body (in dot points) in another colour. This helps the brain with organising the information into sections that we can easily recall when needed. We also have students that prefer to organise their notes in visual diagrams whilst others find it helpful to record themselves reading out notes and then listen to it over. You might also discover that your study technique change depending on the different subject you are looking at. We recommend trying a variety to see which suits best.
