Its that time of the year that our Year 12 students both dread yet also anticipate – Trials. It is the signal that their studies are finally coming to an end and the exams will be the first time that they will get a taste of the HSC. Whilst we appreciate that it can be a stressful time, it should also been seen as a time of learning and accomplishment that you have arrived at such an important stage of your learning journey.

Here is a mini guide to ensure that you are best prepared and are able to make the most of the exams!

Know your syllabus: One of the key (and easiest) ways to prepare is to know your syllabus, the dot points and where each topic fits under those headings. That way, when you see the question you know exactly which areas you are expected to talk about. It can also be used as a guide to organising your study notes so that you can feel confident that you have covered every dot point.

Practice, Practice, Practice: The more past papers and exam style questions you are exposed to before the exam will ease your stress and allow you to understand that is required without the pressure of time limits. This also give you an opportunity to perfect your responses so you have a good idea of the structure to follow to optimise marks.

Get Feedback: Write as many responses as possible before heading in your exam. Then read over them yourself and criticize what you did well and what needs improvement. You can also share this task with a friend and each take turns. It is also highly recommended that you go through these responses with your teacher so they can give you a mark to indicate how your response would have performed if it was submitted.

Balance your time: While studying for your exams is a critical aspect for success, balancing your time is also very important. There is no need to completely give up your hobbies or other activities of interest. Sport is often a great balance as it allows you to get outside and fresh before sitting for your exams.
