Our latest conversation in on the topic of group tutoring Vs private tutoring. Even though where at Tutoring4All we have a focus on a personalised approach, we also understand the value in group learning situations which we would like to take the opportunity to discuss below.
Group tutoring offers a variety of benefits including:
i. Giving peers the opportunity to share their understanding. It is often accepted that the best way to know if you understand a topic is trying to teach it to someone else. This is a huge factor in group situations as it establishes a safe environment that fosters a chance for students to share their knowledge whilst testing themselves.
ii. Humans are creatures of habit. If we see someone acting or performing in a certain way, we often adopt these as our own. In a group tutoring session this is advantageous as students can see how the others in the group are participating and learn from these behaviours.
iii. Group situations often help reduce feelings of pressure as the attention is spread between the students in the group. This gives each student the opportunity to progress at their own pace and use the session in a way that is most helpful to them.
Of course, there are many advantages of personalised tutoring too. Check out our previous blogs that outline these in detail but in summary:
i. Personal sessions means that the time can be spent as needed by the student
ii. Full attention is provided to the student
iii. The session is personalised to the needs and requirements of the student.
We hope you enjoyed the above read and see how both styles work well depending on personal preference.
