We often hear that we must step out side of our comfort zone or try something new in order to achieve greater or grow as a person.

But whilst being a school student, this sounds easier said than done. Besides actually being at school every day for 6 hours, the time at home is often spent doing homework, revising, spending time with family and also enjoying time relaxing.

So even if we wanted a challenge, when would there be time? Is it even worth it?

Our students often come to us with these questions and after chatting with a variety of families, and schools this is the best advice we can offer:

  • Consider how you are spending your time- are you spending hours watching YouTube, playing video games or not being productive? If so, this is a good indication that a challenge would be the right thing for you. Consider that it may only be an hour commitment each week.

  • Do you often find yourself bored or frustrated with yourself that you haven’t left the house? This can mean that you have the extra energy ready to burn off. Taking up a sport would allow you to release steam or any group activity will provide the social interactions to overcome feelings of boredom.

  • Perhaps you want to learn a new skill, experience something different or are interested to understand how a particular thing works. If you have these desires, challenging yourself will prove to be a massive reward because you will be doing something of your own will rather than because you have to.

All in all, we recommend that if you can find that extra hour a week, have a little energy to spare and are willing or interesting in learning something new, a challenge is the right thing for you. Even if you are now considering it after reading this, that is a good indication that you are up for it and who knows what you might learn!
