During term, students learn about lots of different topics and areas of knowledge. From distinct stages of History, to various concepts in Maths to then gain a deeper understanding of the English language.
When assessments are issued, it comes time to apply this knowledge at at times, it becomes daunting! Here are a few pointers we share during our tutoring session to help during this tricky time:
1. Read over the assessment carefully. Make sure you understand exactly what it is asking of you. Sometimes it helps to highlight key words and re-write the question in your own words.
2. Review your class notes. Identify what information you already have and what information you will need to research.
3. Start your first attempt of the assessment with a plan. Write out the different parts of the assessment and include generally what you are going to write in each section.
4. Begin your first draft! Remember, the first draft isn’t going to be perfect. Begin by writing as much as you can. This way it demonstrate which parts need more research.
5. Continue to revise your work and once you are satisfied that all the content has been included, you can then edit your work.
6. Read over the assessment criteria to make sure that your work is not missing something which the teachers will be marking.
7. Submit!
Once you adapt these steps a few times, you will begin to feel less stressed about completing assessments and understand what is required. Good luck!
